The term BDO stands for Block Development Officer, which is called खंड विकास अधिकारी in Hindi and गटविकास अधिकारी in Marathi. Each district is divided into several tehsils and there are many blocks under those tehsils. An officer is appointed by the government to look after the development works of these blocks, that officer is known as BDO.
Where the BDO is appointed, he/she has to look after the development works of the plans for the development of that block area.
