What is the full form of NSG?

The term NSG stands for National Security Guard (Hindi - राष्ट्रीय सुरक्षा गार्ड) and they are also known as Black Cat Commandos. It is a unit of the commandos that works under the Indian Ministry of Home Affairs and is responsible for combat with internal terrorism and providing security to important personalities of the country. The NSG was established on 22 September 1986 under the National Security Guard Act 1986, keeping in mind the terrorist movement like Operation Blue Star, the Golder Temple Attack, and the death of Indira Gandhi.

Important Operations by NSG

• Operation Black Thumder (1986) - Sikh militants had occupied the Golder Temple of Amritsar settled Pubjab, NSG carried out this operation in collaboration with the BSF.
• Operation Ashwamedh (1993) - Indian Airlines Boeing 737 was hijacked by two hijackers, NSG commandos killed one and disarmed the other.
• Akshardham Attack (2002) - Two terrorists attacked the Akshardham temple in Gujarat, during this operation two NSG commandos were martyred.
• Mumbai Attack or 26/11 (2008) - Operation Black Tornado and Operation Cyclone were carried out to eliminate the terrorists and free the hostages, during these operations two commandos werer martyred.
• Pathankot Attack (2016) - In this operation conducted by NSG, 6 terrorists were killed.

How are NSG commandos selected?

To become an NSG commando, it is mandatory to be in any security force of India. NSG commandos are made by selecting the best soldier from the forces of India. Of this, 53% are drawn from the Army and 47% of the commandos are drawn from the Para-Military forces. The NSG commandos are divided into two parts, the Special Action Group (SAG) and the Special Rangers Group (SRG).

Qualification requirement

To become an NSG commando, qualification doesn't matter, only you just need to be the serving personal of the Army or any Para-Military force (BSF, CISF, CRPF, ITBP, SSB, etc).

NSG commando training

NSG commandos are known to carry out their work in any difficult situation, making them capable of their training. Their training is of 14 months in which they are made physically and mentally fit.

Salary of NSG commando

The salary of NSG commandos ranges from 84,000 to 250,000 rupees per month. Apart from this, many other facilities and allowances are also given. Commandos also get an increase in salary based on their rank and honor.
